What's going on here???
The move I've been reading about just how horrible single use plastic bottles are, the more I'm growing to despise them. I figure I'll use this space to share news and information on alternatives, recycling, and just how much our reliance on disposable water bottles is screwing up our planet.
From Ban The Bottle you can see that just in the United States, we're wasting enough oil yearly on disposable bottles to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year or power 190,000 homes. We throw our money away on a product that often isn't 'better' than our tap water. Plus, while we all like to think we're great at recycling, the national average is abysmal; on average only about 23 percent of plastics are actually recycled. That means that out of the 50 million plus disposable plastic bottles we're purchasing each year, 38 million of them end up in landfills, where they will stay for hundreds of years.

The tap water at my work is pretty horrible and was giving me a sore throat so a while ago I started buying a pretty large quantity of disposable water bottles. I'd go through two to three a day and not really think about it until I did the math on how much it was costing me plus just how much plastic I was using. I probably cleared $60 a month just from my water consumption at work, which is pretty bonkers. On a lark, I picked up this 2.2 liter bottle from Amazon for about $11. Now every morning I fill it up before I head to work and I try to make sure I've consumed all of it by the time I head home. I'm saving a TON of money, cut my reliance on disposable plastics, and find myself drinking a lot more water on average, which is never a bad thing.
